PROTOCOLS AND PROCEDURES OF BECOMING THE ARTIST: DEJAN ANĐELKOVIĆ & JELICA RADOVANOVIĆ, WHO IS THE GREATEST SERBIAN ARTIST?

The article examines mechanisms that in the local art world construct and establish the utmost national artist as they are represented in the video artwork by Dejan Andjelković and Jelica Radovanović Who is the Greatest Serbian Artist? (2002). It explains the context in which the video artwork was created, critical perspective that work takes up in relation to the issues of articulation and organisation of the artist community as well as to the issues of the art world (or the art system) that underwent the substantial changes during the last decade of 20th century. This text also analyzes political dimension of the video artwork and anticipation of the politics of aesthetics in Andjelković&Radovanović’s subsequent art work, the meanings that this video artwork produces and their effects, as well as its the media format.
