THE SOCIO-POLITICAL PRECONDITIONS FOR EMERGENCE OF NEW FIGURATION OF THE BELGRADE CIRCLE

The main purpose of this text is to define the socio-political phenomena which shaped the preconditions for the reemergence of new figuration in Yugoslav painting. In the first half of the sixties, appeared the more intense interest of the state for the visual arts. In the same time, we witness the articulated reducing of Western influence in visual arts, as well as their approach to the art tendencies of the communist block. The most obvious example in this regard is the relation of the Yugoslav state towards enformel which was in a serious decline. This process represented a precondition for the reemergence of realism and new figuration, especially within the Belgrade circle.
